King Béla IV renews the grants and privileges originally accorded to the Bishopric of Eger in the 11th century by King St. István. The diocese was destroyed by the Mongols in 1241.

1989

Hungary opens its border to the West, allowing thousands of East Germans to leave in a mass exodus. Within weeks this act leads to the toppling of the Berlin Wall and the fall of the Iron Curtain.
